okay, so it’s been a little quiet in here, so i thought i’d say hello.

making hibiscus cordial at home

i wish i had more to tell you about the coming record. i can say that it is moving along nicely. in fact, i am shooting the very first angie hart video on tuesday! okay, so i do have things to tell you…

i am proud to say that i am finally busy. i can’t tell you how good that feels. i once quit doing music altogether, while i was living in l.a. and made jewellery for a living, in the hope that if the music really called me i would resume my life of pop with a new found appreciation and vigour. it did and i have never looked back. i now appreciate my calling and feel blessed every day that i make music for a living (albeit without money or any of those other quick fixes in the validation stakes). so too, i am now experiencing the same with the art of being busy and occupied in a worthy manner.

i came back to melbourne nearly two years ago now, an exhausted, deflated shell of my former self. i relished in the opportunity to live at my own pace and call the shots, even if those shots were of the alcoholic variety and the pace was set with one elbow propped at a bar somewhere with a good crossword. i needed a break and i had to find out who i was from the ground up, all over again. ‘from the ground up’, turned out to be from the very bowels of the earth, to the first glimpses of sunlight some two years later.

when i say i had to find out who i was, i mean, i even stopped flossing my teeth, changed shampoo, ditched even the most constructive of habits and had a good look at why i thought i had to do them in the first place. i have had what some might call, ‘the opportunity’ to do whatever i damn well please with my days and found it to be extremely unsatisfying. i knew i lived and loved music, but the rest of my life had some serious catching up to do.

cut to, now.

dan kelly, bob log III and myself at the celebrity cook-off

besides becoming an avid gardener and a not-half-bad cook (i can tick these off the ‘things i want to do before i die’ list), i am back to a routine of yoga, writing, and getting a strong grasp on the business side of my career. my phone rings with more noble requests than an invitation for a lager at my local and i am remembering to keep my moleskin diary up to date and even organising those involved in my pre-album release escapades.

i can’t tell you any of the details of the video, lest i spoil the surprise, but i promise glamour and perhaps a feather or two. following that, the artwork for the album will be finalised, comprising of another shoot for the cover and some beautiful illustration from a friend i met here who happens to live a few blocks away from my old apartment in los feliz. i am very excited about the visual side of the album, video, artwork and photography included. it’s a whole ‘nother ball game and a refreshing departure from the recording, mixing mastering side of things.

speaking of, we should be receiving the final masters for the album, this week!

oh, folks, it is happening and i am ready!

feel free to drop me a line to any of the forums (including myspace) and i will read and reply. i haven’t gone anywhere, i’ve just had my head down, getting the next and most important step of the album completed.

before i go, let me also share my excitement over the unexpected visitation of the muse. yes, i have begun writing again. i feel like the landlady of my brain has brought over a few spare keys she found lying around and opened up some unused quarters to give them some air. phew!

lots of love and peaceful thoughts,
